What is the PMTHPP?

The Pumped Multiple Turbines Hydroelectric Power Plant (PMTHPP) is an innovative, self-sustaining hydroelectric system designed to maximize energy efficiency while minimizing environmental impact. PMTHPP is a hybrid multiple-turbine system that integrates both Francis and Pelton turbines, utilizing the full gravitational potential energy to maximize power generation, optimize energy recovery, and significantly reduce energy losses.

How Does the PMTHPP Work?

The PMTHPP operates by pumping water to a high-level reservoir, creating a closed-loop system. Once released, the water flows through a penstock, driving the Francis turbine at the intermediate level. This stage efficiently converts gravitational potential energy into mechanical power, generating electricity while simultaneously increasing system pressure, maximizing overall energy output.

After passing through the Francis turbine, the water enters a draft tube, expanding in diameter. The flow then splits into two primary pipes, each of which further divides into two, forming a total of four penstocks. These penstocks guide the water to the Pelton turbine nozzles. With a smaller cross-sectional area, these nozzles significantly accelerate the water into high-pressure jets, maximizing the impact force on the Pelton turbine buckets and harnessing the full gravitational potential of the water before it returns to the lower reservoir.
